OPENWAVE POWERS PERSONALIZATION FOR MOBILE OPERATORS
Openwave® Personalization and Profiling System Designed to Help Operators Offer Highly Segmented and Customized Mobile Services

Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading provider of open software products and services for the communications industry, today announced the Openwave Personalization and Profiling System (OPPS), designed to help operators deliver an enhanced, personalized user experience across networks and devices. The personalization and profiling platform supports an operator’s subscriber intelligence efforts in three key areas: data collection, segmentation and profile generation, and subsequent profile use by both applications and recommendation engines.
Openwave also selected two best-of-breed technology companies to support the new system – Autonomy (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise and Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), a leading provider of data integration and data quality software.
“The online world is often the benchmark indicator of what’s next for mobile – the success of online recommendation engines have proven consumers are willing to trade preference data for valuable consumers insights,” said Peter Galvin, senior vice president, products and marketing, Openwave. “Operators own a powerful, but largely untapped, advantage in the inherent knowledge of their subscriber base – from user profiles to usage patterns and content preferences. Openwave’s personalization platform is designed to help operators take advantage of their strengths and deliver a personally relevant experience to their subscribers.”
The Openwave Profiling and Personalization System, an end-to-end solution, provides the ability for operators to customize their subscribers’ experience based on a historical view of their previous activity in combination with a consolidated view of each individual subscriber’s demographic and subscription information. OPPS allows operators to collect data from a number of sources, gathers behavioral, demographic and subscriber-provided input and subsequently segments subscribers and develops profiles.
The system’s three core elements include:
 Data Collection and Segmentation – Aggregates information on the subscriber’s data services behavior and static subscriber information by extracting data from various directories, service logs and other data sources
 Profile Generation – Builds consolidated subscriber profiles across networks by processing and abstracting collected information into a profile definition that characterizes interests and experiences
 Campaign Manager and Recommendation Engine – Personalizes the presentation of content and services for the operator to provide a richer, more relevant user experience
“Openwave’s new Personalization and Profiling System represents a significant milestone for the communications industry,” said Dr. Mike Lynch, chief executive officer of Autonomy. “Autonomy is focused on helping organizations extract meaning from unstructured information. We are proud that Openwave has chosen the advanced content classification and indexing capabilities of Autonomy’s Meaning-based Computing platform, IDOL, to play a vital role in enhancing its personalization efforts with global operators.”
“Openwave’s deep relationships and success in the communications industry place the Company in a solid position to collaborate with operators on the next phase of delivering increasingly personalized, targeted services,” said Brian Gentile, EVP and CMO, Informatica. “We look forward to supporting Openwave’s personalization efforts with global operators by leveraging our PowerCenter data integration platform developed to handle the data integration and data quality needs of complex, high-volume telecommunications’ environments.”
Autonomy’s technology, which forms a conceptual and contextual understanding of any piece of electronic data including unstructured information, be it text, email, voice or video, will support Openwave’s system with content classification and the indexing of premium content to enhance the delivery of personalized and relevant content. Informatica will provide a critical element to support OPPS with a solution that seamlessly extracts subscriber activity and data from multiple data sources.
OPPS will support the Openwave Contextual Merchandising offering, also announced today. OPPS will also enhance mobile advertising, sophisticated recommendation engine and campaign management tools for premium content services like ringtones, games and WAP browsing.
Openwave OPPS is part of Openwave’s Adaptive Mobility suite, which enables operators to deliver personalized, easy-to-use, and revenue-generating services for content and communications across all networks and devices. This suite of solutions is supported by Openwave’s carrier-scale infrastructure and delivers the ability to transform the total mobile and wireline Internet experience.
